In the few months that have passed I have been extremely interested in spiritual warfare. I recently read Pigs in the Parlor, which is an awesome book on deliverance, demons, Christian spiritual warfare, casting out demons, and much more. I recommend it to all.
One of the many things that I learned while reading Pigs in the Parlor is that evil spirits (aka demons) can indwell Christians. Yes, Christians. Take a look at the video to the right explaining spiritual warfare and how evil spirits indwell Chrisitans.
The enemy is very crafty and tricky and can enter in to us all in a few different ways. The devil can and will continue to control your ways and thoughts until you decide to take authority over those evil spirits and receive deliverance. Are you ready to take authority with the sword of the spirit and declare all out spiritual warfare on behalf of yourself or a loved one?
Below are some notes and comments in regards to what I read and learned about spiritual warfare and how you can begin putting it to work for you today!
Please note: While all Christians have the authority to do spiritual warfare, I don't recommend just anyone try this without the proper knowledge. While you don't need any special training or skills in the area of deliverance (they can be developed over time), this is just a very small portion of the knowledge needed for deliverance or spiritual warfare. Please pick up a copy of Pigs in the Parlor or other spiritual warfare books to learn more. This is only like a beginners course or recap...
Spiritual Warfare: Rules
In attempting to cast out demons, it is essential to know a few basic rules.
- Let your SPIRIT lead you. Psa 143:10
- Spiritual Warfare is NOT prayer: Spiritual warfare is in addition to prayer. 1 Cor 14:15
- As Christians, we already have the power and authority over the devil! Declare your authority in His name and by the power of His blood. 1Pet 1:18-19, Ro 8:9
- Casting out demons must be replaced with the fruit of the spirit: Before casting demons out, you need to know that it may not always be beneficial to cast demons out of someone. Why? If an enemy spirit is cast out and not replaced with a fruit of the spirit, the enemy spirit can and may re-enter, and bring more bad spirits with; You may actually do more damage than good. Matt 12:43-45
- Talk out loud to the spirit you are assaulting. It may seem awkward, but you will get used to doing it. Mark 5:8
- Do not argue or engage in conversation with a spirit - it is a distraction. You may occasionally ask the spirit to name itself, but you can also just call the spirit by it's nature and it's just as effective. Acts 19:15,16
- Don't stop at one try! Demons will try to deceive you - you must be persistent and resist the tricks of the devil and keep on resisting. Ro 14:17
Spiritual Warfare: Steps (for Self)
The first objective in spiritual warfare is to free oneself. When wanting to cast demons out of self, in addition to above, you must:
- Assault (from outside)
- Reject
- Plead the blood
- Bind
- Command to leave
- Seal with the Name of Jesus
Example of a spiritual warfare prayer:
You demon are a liar. I reject you spirit of rebellion. I am under the protection of the blood of Jesus that He shed on the cross for me and my sins. I bind you and command you to leave, in the NAME OF JESUS.
If you are attempting to cast a spirit out of another that has consented to deliverance (or as a parent, you have the authority over your children as well) you may follow the guidelines of casting demons out of self above.
Spiritual Warfare: Steps (on Behalf of Another)
If you are interested in attempting to cast out demons on behalf of another, you MUST know (in addition to or in contrast to the above rules):
- You can assault the evil spirit from anywhere! You do not always need to be in the presence of the evil spirit you are battling. You can do it from anywhere in the spirit.
- Spiritual warfare on behalf DOES NOT control the will of the person: It only binds the power of demons and releases the will apart from demon interference. 2 Cor 10:3
- Don't talk out loud - do it in the spirit: unless the person you
are attempting to cast the spirit out of understands what is going on
and is willing to work towards filling and replacing those evil spirits within himself with the fruits of the
spirit. You do not always have to speak (talk out loud) in order to declare spiritual warfare. In fact, it's not a good idea if the person does not understand what is going on.

Example of a spiritual warfare prayer:
You demons that are troubling _____ [my child], we take authority over you in the NAME OF JESUS. You are seeking to destroy this house, but we reject you and will not permit you to do so. We are seated together with Christ in spiritual authority. We know our position and our rights. We bind you in the NAME OF JESUS. Take your hands off ___ [his] life. Release ___ [his] will that he may be free to accept Christ as ___ [his] saviour.

@ ladyvenus - what are your belief systems? if you don't mind me asking. spiritual warfare is similar to praying, but it's not praying. praying is more like talking and having a relationship with God, thanking Him & asking for things. spiritual warfare is just what it's title sounds like - warfare! if you noticed instead of prayer it's actually more like a formula or strategy (just like in war). in order for it to be effective you have to do/say certain things.

@ mdawson - Thanks. I don't think enough people are aware that evil spirits really do exist and plan to destory us. And many don't realize the power they have with spiritual warfare. Definitely a topic I feel churches need to cover more. We are preparing for the end times and we all need to be equipped and raging war - not against each other - but against the devil and his evil

@ James - Thanks. I too know demons exist. It was something that had interested me for years, I only just recently started learning about it/them. I always thought you had to have some special authority or training in order to cast out demons, but in all reality you don't.
The hardest part is not getting caught up in emotions when instead spiritual warfare should be used. I often find myself doing that, even with this knowledge. It's a grooming process and I'm glad I could share as I learn & hopefully help others.

I am a believer, I'd been in a constant demonic battle since I was a little girl. I am aware of generational demons that are trying to get me down. God has used me MANY times, I know and believe God has a big purpose in my life... but right now, I need help! I feel demons have taken over my life like I never felt them before, I feel so oppressed, I am actually harming people who love me, and auto-destroying my life (spirit)... I need to cast the demons out of me, can someone give me a # where I can call?

@ Lauren - I completely understand your battle. I was going through very similar situations where, after I was able to discern the evil spirits in my life, I began to recognize when and how they were harming me and others. And it seemed that the more I knew or learned, the more the devil attacked!
I would start with getting yourself a copy of the Pigs in the Parlor book - you'll learn so much from it including how to bind up and cast demons out of yourself. But in your case it sounds like you realize the problem is big and will take some time - in that case I would search for a deliverance minister in your area. Great post. Thanks for being courageous and letting people know there is a devil out there trying to keep us from God, and working to keep us feeling defeated, and that there are positive ways we can combat him and put him in his defeated place. Remember John 10:10, "the thief (Satan) comes to steal, kill, and destroy; I (Jesus) came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly". Gotta love that.

yes people this is real as you live ..god showed me the truth because i was so blind. i have actual photos you dont need a camera at my house you can see them and feel them i fight unclean sprits dayly and have for around 3 years now every day .the more you turn to god the more they hate it .there afraide of what you can become i also am finding that god has something verry special for me to do..god is going to build a army for the end times . your being conditiond now ..ok demons are attacking you your best wepon is prayer praise love pray for patents understanding /read your bible there is power in the word /read read read your bible and pray those are your wepons your mind is key /watch what you say it can be used against you/ your mouth has power /people need to under stand when you give yourself to god he is yours yours his he dwells in you the holy sprit it takes time ..to that girl that needs help ..if you want to talk ..leave ph number god bless you all

Do not believe for one second that Satan isn't in the midst running intel ops looking for ways to manipulate. Since we use the term "Spiritual Warfare" we must also realize that those who stand behind the pupit are the hard targets. Further, to understand a war of any kind, it needs to be understood that the objective is the mind of Christ within you. It is your Salvation. Your Deliverance. Your Miracle and your Healing. Protect it.
the devil and his demons are real,my friend andrea and i deal with them nightly. they are the oddest looking creatures youve ever seen ,all shapes and sizes w/wings ,without wings ,big ape lookin things, down to cartoon lookin creatures with odd features , egyption lookin dudes ,and power ranger lookin dudes w/ eye shields, pillar types, horned types , dragon types, and the list goes on ,and we have pics to proove it.they hover over my girlfriend , they get into your head ,you must resist very persistant and ugly to boot . i think they want her? i think they are controlled by the giant one under the house ,the big black dragon lookin ,flying one ,very powerful and fast ,there are so many of them around this house ,i dont know what they all want . they are skeptical because they know we are children of GOD and weve let them know this ther is so much to show and tell everyone about our experiences with these demons and come up with a way to send them back to hell.suggestions ? email me at sfallco@live.com thx and please pray for us ,god bless , dozer

I want to say that demons are very real because after becoming a real Christian, God has put me into intense spiritual warfare.
But one thing I have to comment on is that in the spiritual realm, demons are able to see if you have your spiritual armor on. You must have your helmet of salvation, breast plate of righteousness, shield of faith, shoes of peace, belt of truth and sword, which is God's Word.
@Dozer - I'm not sure if you are living with your girlfriend or fornicating, but any behavior that does not honor God gives ammunition to the enemy. You have to submit to yourself to God RESIST the devil and he'll flee. Draw nigh to God and He'll draw nigh to you. When you resist the devil, you stop fornicating not in your own strength or power but through God's spirit. You have to be serious about it though and say, "God, I'm trying to stop X, Y, Z" and I need help. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, please help me and forgive me of my sins. Wash me and my home with the blood of Jesus Christ." Sincerely ask God and He'll listen. Humble yourself, seek understanding and He will hear your words.

When I first read these teachings, I don't think all my spiritual armor was in tact and I didn't receive the knowledge in the way I should've. But then, about three years later God just brought it to mind and He began revealing to me that the teachings above is what really goes on in the spiritual realm.
Any how, it's always best to go in prayer and ask God what He thinks about it. You may have to fast and pray but it's worth it!
Those things don't always work...especially if you are coming up against the principalities in high places...it's a combination of faith, knowledge and absolute discipline to God and with PRAISE as your most powerful weapon..try it in a big fight..ask God to set you up with a high ranking demon...after 6 to 8 months of intense teaching, you will see that God did hear your petition and has set you up with a worthy opponent that will get you high recognition with Jesus, if you are victorious. But don't stress, you will conquer, because God has already foreseen it as so..amen..
Earnestshub, it may sound like nonsense, but I know by personal experience that demons are real and God is real and their is a spiritual battle going on right now for our souls.

Please, we need some help with this? I know this sounds crazy but....10 years ago my husband and I went to a conference and my husband witnessed something that we have shared with very few people. (Even a young pastor and his wife were speechless when we shared a published writing from another witness about it.) Recently, I have been "under attack" and am now back in THE WORD and surrounding myself with powerful Praise and Worship. I want to be free of this. I really think "it" wants me to commit suicide. I was in hospital in NZ for seven days.They took me to a ward and it was late I alreay have a neighbor who is a lady and she was really in pain.I closed my eyes and I saw so many demons in our room.They come out of the walls,floor and the silling.I turn towards my neighbor's I saw heaps of men (demon)gathering towards this lady.I am a beleiver and I remeber Jesus casting the demons out into the pigs.I layed in bed and gave my whole person to God and started to cast the demons in Jesus name.Amazingly the demons melt into thin air.Some of them they make a grant noise and disappear.It was like looking at those black and white horror movies.There were so many of them it took me an hour or 2 to clean the room.As soon as I saw Jesus's cross and the room was as light up as the day I could go to sleep.My neighbor was also settled and having a good nite sleep.All the time I was in hospital whoever needed a place to have a good sleep they were directed to my room.This is my first time casting demons in Jesus name.God is good all the time.Love your site.God bless

I have been casting out demons for some time now, and have experienced several attacks from them on a regular basis. Demons attacks are not a threat to me anymore because no matter how many times they have attacked me they have not physically or spiritually hurt or destroy me. The attacks was infact a stratedgy by demons to scare me so that I must stop destroying and casting them out. On numerous occassions I have received information from the demon possessed people ( after being cleansed)on how demons would be telling them to stay away from me and not listen to what I was saying to them. One 21 year old demon possesses girl literally burned when she tried to attack me at night, when I woke up she was in flames. Earlier that night the demons talked to me through her wanting to know where my powers was located. In response I told her that my powers was with God and if they wanted to destroy me they would have to destroy God first. The best weapon to be demon free is to 'submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you" James 4:7.I have also experienced when entering some churches demons screaming out lound as I enter. The Lord has also annointed me with a gift of recognizing demon posessed people at a distance and everywhere I go. The Name of Jesus is very very powerful. Amen

Me and my girlfriend both saw and felt opession from demons. I can't remrember what happened to the one I encountered, I just remember seeing it. My girlfriend actually just simply sang "sin has lots its power" and it went away.

It is important to Understand that when you Pray to remove demons and curses from someone or somewhere, you are actually taking on those evil entities yourself. If you have not been Given the Gift to do "exorcism", we'll call it, then you will end up demon possessed yourself. This is why many well-meaning Catholic priests ended up homosexual and with serious problems themselves. They took on the demons and curses because men told them they could, but God had never Given them the Gift and with it, the Protection.

Demons cannot possess or indwell inside of reborn Christians, period. Greater is He that's within us than he that's in the world. A demon can not stand in power in the presence of the Holy Spirit; and the Holy Spirit indwells on the inside of Christians. Christians can be demonicly oppressed, but never possessed.
Very good comment, Pattyg. Makes you take a second look at things and people, doesn't it! The rebirth is not an altar call! To take on "work" that is not yours to do means you have mocked Yeshua and are not Following Him.
First, only in the name of Jesus can someone win in casting out demons, there will NEVER be only one demon. Second, if the person who is possessed does not accept Jesus Christ as their one and only savior there is no hope. In a book titled Tramp for the Lord, Cooie ten Boom states that if you cast out demons from someone and that person still has unrepentant sin in their life the circle is not closed and the demon can return.
You should also make sure that you have repented of any sin that you may have comitted before you start
